April 4, 2023 - Cape May/Ocean Beaches with Mugsy

The forecast was pretty good for today so Mugsy asked me if I wanted to do some aviating.  Sure!  Soon I was winging my way over the Eastern Shore to Massey  Aerodrome.

Green is overtaking the brown but we're still not all the way there.

A little offshoot heads north off the Chester River.

I arrived at Massey a little early.  Checking out Massey's F4U Corsair while waiting for Mugsy.

Mugsy arrived shortly thereafter and soon we were winging our way east to Cape May.  Below, the Delaware River comes into view.

Passing over a 737 jet as it heads into Dover Air Force Base.  Always interesting to be looking down on a jet from your RV.

Feet wet over Delaware River.

Land ho!

Cape May airport in sight.

Approaching Cape May Airport.  Because we cross the Delaware high, we are always screaming fast at this point because of a high descent.

Safe on deck at Cape May.

I always order the Eggs Benedict at the Flight Line Cafe.  It's very good and relatively inexpensive.

After a late breakfast, we take off and head for Cape May itself, to jump across the Delaware Bay to Cape Henlopen.

Speaking of Cape Henlopen, there it is!

Always picturesque, Cape Henlopen is.

I noticed these sand dunes for the first time.  They are the "Walking Dunes" and are part of Cape Henlopen State Park.  Will have to hike them some day.

Loyal readers probably have picked up on my fascination with the big Naval guns like this sixteen incher down below.

A battery of these were here during World War II.  Nobody was cruising up to Philadelphia on the surface unless the powers that be said so.

Mugsy and I descend to fly the ocean beaches heading south.

Passing by some observation/spotting towers left over from WWII.

Rehobeth Beach is a happening place today.

The air was very misty down low.  Other than Rehobeth, no one is on the beaches on this early May weekday.

We passed by Ocean City and are now cruising down Assateaque Island.

A sighting on some of the famous Assateaque Island wild horses.

All too soon, it's time to break off to the northwest and head for home.

Turning final at Essex Skypark.  Fun flying day,.
